Population Status

In Indicator 3.5, data on the population status of residents in the Central Region has now been published. This time, new data from the period 2011-2023 is presented, including Norðurþing entirely within the Central Area. The status of residents in the Central Area is compared with the comparison regions, as in many of the project's indicators.

Assets per capita increased from ISK 19.9 million to ISK 21.2 million, representing a 6.5% year-on-year increase, which is slightly lower than the increase in all comparison regions.

Debts per capita in the Central Arean amount to approximately ISK 5 million and decreased by 1.4% year-on-year. In the comparison regions, debts increased year-on-year in the Western Area and nationwide but decreased in the Eastern Region by 1.8%.

At the beginning of Gaums' monitoring period, there was a difference of ISK 2 million in assets per capita between the Central Area and the Western Area, and ISK 4 million between the Central Area and the entire country. In 2023, there is a difference of ISK 10.5 million in assets per capita between the Western Area and the Central Area, where assets per capita are higher in the Western Area, and ISK 15 million between assets per capita nationwide and in the Central Region. The increase in assets is therefore somewhat slower in the Central Area than in the Western Area and nationwide. On the other hand, the increase in debts per capita in the Central Area and the Eastern Area has been lower than in the Western Area and nationwide. In the Central Area, residents owe approximately ISK 5 million, while debts per capita nationwide amount to approximately ISK 9.1 million.
