3.2 Number of farms

This graph shows the number of farms by type of farming. The development offers a decrease in sheep farms from 234 at its height in 2012 to 174 in 2018. Cattle farms have also decreased, but horse farms have increased.

Changes in work can affect the number of farms in agricultural production and change the pattern of production in farming which is necessary to monitor.

In recent years the number of tourists in the area has increased. Accommodation supply has gone up. It is important to monitor the number of accommodation options and their use.

Information on the number of farms producing agricultural productions, the number of animals, the number of accommodation options, number of overnight stays (inside and outside) along with the use of accommodation will be published.

Frequency

Information on farming, accommodation and its use will be published yearly.

Central area - farming.

Central area and the whole of Iceland - tourism.

Accountability

The project manager is responsible for acquiring the data and publishing it according to the publishing schedule.
